Biography

Grethel Villarreal Cantu is a licensed immigration attorney with a deep-rooted commitment to advocating for immigrant rights and justice. Born and raised in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Grethel‘s early life in Mexico and later in McAllen, Texas, provided her with a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing immigrant communities. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she completed her high school education and has since made it her home.

With a strong sense of justice and determination, Grethel earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Afterward, Grethel earned her Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where she honed her legal skills and developed a profound dedication to social justice. While at St. Mary’s University, Grethel was an active member of The Scholar: Law Review on Race and Social Justice, contributing as a Staff Writer and later serving as the Comments Editor. She was also deeply engaged in her community, providing pro bono legal services and holding leadership positions in several law school organizations. Through these experiences, Grethel strengthened her passion for serving diverse communities and advocating for those often underrepresented in the legal system.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Grethel is dedicated to helping immigrant families navigate the complexities of the legal system. She combines her personal experiences and cultural understanding to provide compassionate support to her clients.
